Good Golly, Miss Molly

It appears my feisty little kitty has gotten into her first (Hopefully last? Wishful thinking?) big-time scuffle.

Molly never came home for breakfast this morning. She spends her nights coming and going as she pleases, but she always comes home for breakfast. I called her outside for a good ten minutes this morning before I was nearly late for work. I put the pin lock in the back door so she could get in and did one last call for her before I left.

7.10

When I got home, the first thing I noticed was her wet food was still in her dish. I immediately started to tear up thinking she never came home and what was I going to tell Andrew? I called for her and all the sudden she strolled down the hall and laid under the table by the door. She wouldn't come to me when I got down and called her. Strange, but okay.

I still knew something had to be up since she didn't eat her food, but she followed us outside as I took Dex out.

I decided to check her out once we got back in and felt her underside was a little crusty. Then I noticed her limping.

I sent a single word expletive to Andrew before calling the vet and rushing over.

It appears Molly was attacked by another animal. She has three puncture wounds on the outside of her leg, which was also broken. She also had a decent size gash that needed stitching. Presumably one of the neighborhood cats that have been harassing her finally got her, but we'll never know for sure.

My poor kitty :( She will have to be crate confined for a month while she heals, which should be interesting! But hey, we're pros at that by now! Geez, our animals never take it easy on us (or our wallets). I'm glad she's okay though, and I can't wait to bring her back home tomorrow.

Okay, so it’s been over a month! Time is seriously flying by. Going to have to do bullets for this whopper.

-Dexter (the most important, of course): Is doing great! He’s up and walking around like a happy little guy. He’s got the whole “drunken walk” going on, but he’s WALKING. He’s no longer crate-confined, but he still has to be blocked off in a small area for the majority of the day. Admittedly, we’ve been cheating a little bit. When we’re hanging out in the bedroom or kitchen, we kind of let him wander the apartment until he gets too rowdy and starts chasing the cat around. Most of the time he’s fine, though. He loses complete footing on slippery ground, like our kitchen tile, so he’s not allowed in there. He goes for daily walks, and has these orange little balloon “booties” for his back paws, so he doesn’t injure them (he still drags his feet sometimes). We were told to start with five minute walks and work our way up from there. The first day, he was DONE after about one minute. He straight sat down in the middle of the driveway. It was super funny. We also have a list of exercises we are supposed to do twice a day as physical therapy. Not going to lie, we’re failing a little bit on that end. Definitely need to work on that. He had one session of physical therapy at the vet’s office where he worked on the WATER TREADMILL. Honestly, they have that for dogs? I wish we were allowed back in that area to watch! That’s about it, though. He will continue to heal and should be walking pretty normal in the next month or so, but they say it can take up to a year to fully recover. Sooooo happy he’s walking, though.

-We moved into the most fabulous little bungalow/cottage. I love, love, love it! It’s got character and charm and is darling. We’ve definitely made it home (just need to get our photos on the walls!).

-Started school again. I’m taking four courses this semester (two are 8 week courses, so it’s really more like 3 courses at a time). I’m in class Tuesday through Thursday. It’s exhausting, but not terrible. My Thursday course starts at 5:00 p.m..you know, the time I get OFF work. They don’t bother to tell you that until the first day of class. When you register for the course, it says it starts at 7:00 p.m. What they don’t tell you, is client interviews start at 5:00. Fortunately, you can be a little late, just have to make up your hours. It’s actually a really interesting course, interviewing real clients. Anyway, I’ll still have two more semesters after this one, but I’m hoping it all goes by quickly and before I know it, I’ll be a paralegal.

-Husband left me for a business trip on Sunday. The first time we’ve slept in separate beds since the day before our wedding. I’ve been pretty darn lucky. That’s almost a year without a business trip! He’s usually gone every few months. I’m not complaining. I’ve got my mama staying with me, so I won’t be lonely. She’s cooking me dinner and taking care of my pup. Love it!

-Our first anniversary is a little over a month away! The year has flown by. I don’t really feel like much changed after getting married, but I’m definitely happy with the little life we’ve built. I couldn’t imagine a better partner to spend my life with. We don’t have any plans set in stone yet. We originally wanted to go to Vegas and see another Cirque show, but with the whole Dex situation, we won’t be able to go unless my mama can come over and watch him. We are also considering a small overnight trip to Big Bear or Santa Barbara. We’ll see. We may end up just going out to dinner..who knows! I REALLY need to get working on my gift though. First anniversary = paper. I think that’s a pretty easy one!
